Do's and Don'ts in the Red Light District

Welcome to Amsterdam's Red Light District! My name is Aisha, and I have been working here as a sex worker for several years. I would like to share my personal experiences and insights with you so that you can understand how to approach our work and environment with respect. Here are some do's and don'ts to ensure that your visit is pleasant and respectful for everyone.

Do’s

  1. Treat Us with Respect:
    • When you visit our area, it's important to treat us as professionals. I remember an evening when a group of tourists stood by my window and asked respectful questions. Their politeness made my work much more enjoyable that night.
  2. Follow the Rules:
    • Our work is strictly regulated, and there are specific rules you need to follow. Once, a customer knew exactly what was allowed and what was not, making the interaction smooth and respectful.
  3. Be Informed:
    • If you're curious about the Red Light District, consider taking a tour. I have noticed that visitors who have taken a tour often show more understanding and respect for our work.
  4. Pay the Agreed Amount:
    • Negotiating the price is a big don't. I remember a customer who paid the agreed amount without any questions. It made the experience much more pleasant for both of us.
  5. Respect Our Privacy:
    • Do not take photos of us or our workspaces. I have unfortunately often experienced people trying to take photos. This feels disrespectful and invasive.
  6. Use Digital Payments:
    • Digital payments are safer and more convenient for us. A customer once asked if he could pay via an app, which I greatly appreciated.
  7. Ask for Permission:
    • If you want to ask something, do so respectfully. I greatly appreciate it when people ask if I have time to talk before they start asking questions.

Don’ts

  1. Do Not Take Photos:
    • It is strictly forbidden to take photos of us. I feel uncomfortable and disrespected when people try to take a photo anyway.
  2. Do Not Negotiate:
    • Do not try to negotiate the price. This is disrespectful and offensive. Our rates are set and non-negotiable.
  3. Do Not Treat Us as a Tourist Attraction:
    • Do not treat us as tourist attractions. Once, someone stood staring at me for several minutes without saying anything, which was very unpleasant.
  4. Do Not Block the Window Space:
    • Do not stand in front of our windows and obstruct our workspace. This is our work area and must remain accessible to customers.
  5. Do Not Use Derogatory Language:
    • Do not use derogatory or disrespectful language. Treat us with the same dignity as anyone else.
  6. Do Not Linger:
    • If you do not intend to use our services, do not linger in front of the windows. This is bothersome and can deter potential customers.
  7. Respect Boundaries:
    • If we set a boundary, respect it. This applies to both physical boundaries and topics of conversation.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and respect these guidelines. By following these do's and don'ts, you help us perform our work safely and with dignity. I hope you have a respectful and educational visit to Amsterdam's Red Light District.
