They must keep track of their finances, arrange permits, and sometimes even do their own marketing. \u201cI work as a self-employed entrepreneur, so I have to do my own bookkeeping and make sure my permits are in order,\u201d explains Anja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Networking with other sex workers and organizations is also important. There are various support organizations in Amsterdam that help sex workers with legal, financial, and emotional support. \u201cI am a member of a few organizations that support sex workers. We share experiences and help each other when needed,\u201d says Anja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Most sex workers begin their work behind the windows in the evening. The windows usually open around 8 PM and stay open until late at night. \u201cEvenings are the busiest. Tourists and locals come by, and the streets are lively,\u201d says Anja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The work can be challenging. Sex workers have to deal with different types of clients and sometimes unpleasant situations. \u201cIt is not always easy. Sometimes clients are disrespectful or try to negotiate the price. It\u2019s important to stay clear and professional,\u201d explains Anja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a long workday, sex workers close their windows and return home. For Anja, this is a moment of reflection and relaxation. \u201cI make sure to clean up my workspace and update my administration. Then I take the time to relax and organize my thoughts,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
